Boutique hotel website design: how to win the direct booking
By Core Concepts · · Hospitality
Every booking that comes through an online travel agency costs a hotel a commission. A direct booking costs nothing. The website's job is to make booking direct feel like the obvious choice, and for a boutique hotel that starts with atmosphere, because atmosphere is what the big platforms cannot show.
Sell the feeling before the facilities
Guests choose a small hotel for how it will feel to be there. Lead with a single, confident image and a line that could only describe your place. Lists of amenities come later.
Our Orra template opens with the photograph showing through the letters of the hotel's name, then zooms through into the view. It makes the first few seconds feel like arriving.
Show the rooms the way guests compare them
People compare rooms on four things: what it looks like, how big it is, what the view is and what it costs. Show all four on each card, with a starting price per night. Hiding prices sends visitors back to a platform that shows them.
Keep booking one tap away
A booking bar that stays on screen, with dates, guests and room, removes the hunt for the button. On phones it should become a sheet at the bottom of the screen, within reach of a thumb.
Describe a day, not a list of services
"Breakfast included" is a feature. "Breakfast at seven on the terrace, before the island wakes up" is a reason to come. Walking through a day, from morning swim to dinner, lets guests imagine their stay. In Orra this is a timeline from 07:00 to 21:00 where the colours shift from dawn to night as you scroll.
Give food its own space
For many boutique hotels the restaurant is half the appeal. Show the menu as a menu, with a few real dishes, opening hours and whether non-guests can book.
Answer the arrival questions
How far is the airport? Is there a ferry? Do you arrange transfers? Small hotels in beautiful places are often awkward to reach, and uncertainty loses bookings. Give routes, times and the local time.
Use guest words
A handful of short quotes from guests and press, rotated quietly, does more than a wall of review badges. Name the source.
Give them a reason to book direct
Say plainly what direct guests get: the best rate, a room upgrade when available, a later checkout, breakfast. Put it next to the booking bar.
A checklist
- One atmospheric image and one specific line on the first screen
- Rooms with size, view and a starting price
- A booking bar that follows the visitor
- A day at the hotel, told as a story
- Dining with real dishes and hours
- How to get there
- A stated reason to book direct
